What is it?
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY
Occupational therapy enables people to participate in activities they find meaningful. These activities include taking care of oneself (and others), working, volunteering, and participating in hobbies, interests and social events. Occupational therapy is a client-centred health profession that involves ongoing assessments to understand what activities you can do (and those you want to do), any current limitations, your goals/motivations and also to offer advice/techniques about how to do something more easily and safely. Occupational therapists (OTs) prescribe devices to help you do the activities you want and need to do. They will make sure you can use the device in the best way to meet your needs. This means that you will get a total solution and not just a product.

DO I NEED
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY?

Occupational therapy is a healthcare profession that focuses on helping individuals of all ages develop, recover, or maintain the skills needed for daily activities (occupations) that are meaningful to them. These activities can include self-care tasks, work-related tasks, leisure activities, and more. You might consider occupational therapy if you are facing challenges in performing activities that are important for your daily life due to physical, cognitive, emotional, or sensory limitations. Some situations where occupational therapy might be beneficial include:

-
Physical Injuries or Disabilities: If you've had an injury or have a chronic condition that affects your physical abilities, such as difficulty with mobility, fine motor skills, or coordination, occupational therapy can help you regain function and independence.
-
Neurological Conditions: Conditions like stroke, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson's disease, or multiple sclerosis can impact your ability to carry out daily tasks. Occupational therapy can provide strategies to manage these challenges.
-
Mental Health Concerns: If you're dealing with mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), occupational therapy can assist in developing coping skills, managing stress, and improving overall well-being.
-
Developmental Delays: Children with developmental delays or disabilities might benefit from occupational therapy to improve their motor skills, sensory processing, and cognitive abilities.
-
Aging-related Challenges: As people age, they might face difficulties in maintaining their independence due to changes in physical or cognitive abilities. Occupational therapy can help seniors adapt and continue to engage in meaningful activities.
-
Work-related Issues: Occupational therapists can also help individuals address challenges related to their work environment, such as ergonomics, workplace accommodations, and injury prevention.

If you're unsure whether you need occupational therapy, it's a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional. Contact us today to assess your specific situation and determine appropriate interventions based on your needs and goals. We can help determine if occupational therapy would be beneficial for you and create a personalised plan to address your concerns.

What is it?
THE NDIS FUNCTIONAL
CAPACITY ASSESSMENT

The NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) Functional Capacity Assessment is a process used in Australia to determine a person's eligibility and support needs under the NDIS. The NDIS is a government-funded program designed to provide support and services to people with permanent and significant disabilities.

The Functional Capacity Assessment helps the NDIS determine a participant's level of functional capacity and the impact their disability has on their ability to perform everyday activities. The assessment is conducted by qualified healthcare professionals, such as occupational therapists, physiotherapists, or speech therapists, depending on the specific needs of the individual.

During the assessment, the healthcare professional evaluates the person's physical, cognitive, sensory, and communication abilities to understand their level of functional capacity. They may also take into consideration the person's support network and their ability to participate in social and community activities.

The information gathered from the assessment helps the NDIS develop a personalised support plan for the participant, outlining the necessary supports and services they may require to achieve their goals and improve their quality of life.
